Emergency Care
Emergency care and urgent care are different. Deciding which service you require will be determined by the seriousness of the illness or injury. If it is life-threatening or limb-threatening, an “emergency” room is required, as hospitals are better equipped for critical needs, such as strokes, heart attacks, or car accidents with extensive trauma.
A cold or earache that develops suddenly or problems that you would normally discuss with your primary care doctor do not require an emergency room visit. The Urgent Care at Family Medical Center in Delta Junction, Alaska, is available to take care of your urgent needs.
Symptoms that need to be treated right away that are commonly seen at Urgent Care can include:
Abdominal pain
Vomiting
Shortness of breath
Wheezing
Fever with no rash
Dehydration
Mild-to-moderate flu symptoms
Sprains or strains
Uncomplicated fractures
Cuts that might require stitches
Urgent Care is not meant to be a substitute for a regular doctor but can provide relief for recurring earaches or urinary tract infections.
Some would think a cut needing stitches or broken bones would need to be treated in an emergency room, but that is not necessarily the case. Simple stitches and uncomplicated broken bones (not protruding from the skin) can be assessed in Urgent Care with our x-ray machine.
